Hi. I’m going to be a week late for my period tomorrow, and I’ve got a feeling it isn’t coming. I’ve tried a couple tests, and only one of them I did wrong because I was in a hurry. One I did tonight, because the first response box said it didn’t have to be in the morning. All negative. Yet there is no period. My nipples are swollen, my breasts tender, digestion/gastric abberations from whats normal for me, being very tired every other day despite not working hard… and mild headaches.I called the insurance and Friday is the earliest they are willing to URINE test me. They were very resistant to allowing a blood test. I don’t know why. I just don’t want to be one of theose people who are pregnant and its like, “surprise, you’re 3 months pregnant, hope you’ve been eating well and taking vitamins!”…. My periods are generally regular but will be a day or two late. I am not convinced its any of the other reasons for being late.Is there a reason an insurance company (partnering with doctors, aka Kaiser permanente) would not want a blood test done? Its ticking me off that they refuse)

It could be stress, I would wait until you have your first morning urine to take a test..that way you are sure to get the most concentrated urine with the most HCG. I would just be careful and start eating well, you should do that anyway when trying to get pregnant. You can also start taking prenatal vitamins, they are actually good for women trying to concieve.I suggest you wait one more week and try testing again. If you don’t get your period then I would go see the doctor, just in case! Good luck! I know it’s hard to wait.

All women experience irregular period sometimes during their child bearing years, before menopause. Menstruation Disorders – Dysmenorrhea – Symptoms of Blood Deficiency in TCM Perspective

In traditional Chinese medicine, dysmenorrhea is defined as a pain in the lower abdomen, appearing with menstrual cycle that can spread over to the whole abdomen and lumbosacral region, depending on diagnosis. If not treated, it may contribute to infertility for some women.

High fiber foods for fat loss – Fitness Bootcamp Instructor explains

Being a fat loss bootcamp owner and personal trainer in Singapore, I am dead serious about helping people reach their fitness, weight loss, fat burning and muscle gaining goals. As expected, we spend A LOT of time talking about the perfect healthful diet. Diet, more than anything else, affects fat loss and fitness! Even if you were attending boot camp 4 times a week on top of personal training sessions, if your diet was crappy, you would NOT reach your goals.

The idea healthful diet should contain a lot of FIBER. Many people have far too little fiber in their diet for optimal health, particularly if that diet is mostly made up of processed foods.

So, what is fiber?

Fiber is the part of the plants we eat that our digestive enzymes can’t break down into absorbable nutrients. The main forms of fiber are soluble fiber, insoluble fiber and resistant starch. All three forms of fiber are usually labelled as “dietary fiber” on food packaging.

Fiber has an essential part to play in maintaining health and an ideal body weight. For instance, fiber buffers the impact of digested food on blood sugar and insulin levels, reducing the promotion of fat storage. Also, high-fiber foods need more time to chew, so your body has more time to register that you’re full, so you’re less likely to overeat, fills you up longer and has more volume for fewer calories.

Here is a breakdown of the 3 different types of fiber and their health benefits:

1. SOLUBLE FIBER: Soluble fiber becomes a gel when dissolved in water. Most of this will be undigested, but a small amount is fermented and partially broken down in the colon. Health benefits of soluble fiber include:

- slowing down digestion so you can absorb nutrients better – helping to regulate blood sugar levels (great for people naturally intolerant of carbohydrates, diabetics and those with prediabetics conditions) -lowering levels of total cholesterol and LDL cholestorol -encouraging growth of beneficial intestinal bacteria while reducing number of bad bacteira

Sources of soluble fiber include most fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, psyllium husks, flaxseeds, barley, dried beans, oat bran and oats.

2. INSOLUBLE FIBER: Insoluble fiber won’t dissolve in water and is not digested any where in the body. It’s mostly made of cellulose (from the cell walls of whatever plant you ate) that leaves the body intact. Health benefits of insoluble fiber include:

- pulling toxins out of the body (very important considering out modern lifestyle and environment) – helping with regular bowel movements =) – helping food move through the gut (one advantage of rapid bowel movements is that it may help minimize our exposure to DNA-damaging chemicals and other toxins in food) – controlling the pH balance in the intestines

3. RESISTANT STARCH: Resistant starch re complex carbohydrates (sugars) that resist digestion and arrive in the colon largely intact. It offers some of the benefits of both soluble and insoluble fiber. An example of a resistant starch is hard bread crust, which resists digestion until it’s in the colon, where it is partially digested by fermentation.

Now for the bottom line – how do we get more fiber in diet?

Here are 4 simple steps!

1. Don’t juice – eat only the whole fruit (apples and oranges etc) or vegetable (carrots). 2. Eat more vegetables! 3. Use a fiber supplement. It’s best to use a gluten-free type of fiber, and switch brands of fiber after week, even if you have no history of gluten sensitivity, as it’s easy for many people to develop gluten sensitivities if stay on the same brand for long (you can alternate between two brands at the end of every week). 4. Eat whole grains instead of refined grains (well, no one should be eating refined grains anyway!)

Foods For Healthy Skin

Eating food for healthy skin is a great choice. It’s good for the rest of your body, too. But, you should also be aware of the value of a good skincare cream. If it contains the right ingredients, it can provide “direct” nourishment.

The skin’s outer layers are composed completely of dead keratinized cells. They are produced by stem cells, located within the dermis layer, along with the melanocytes (produce the pigment melanin in response to sun exposure) and the elastic fibers.

When we are young, the stem cells are producing 24 hours a day. The entire outer layer (called the epidermis) is replaced in four weeks or less. Thousands of dead cells are sloughed off every day, as new ones make their way to the surface. As we get older, all of that slows down.

Since, the cells in the epidermis are dead; you might think that they don’t need nourishment. But, in order to provide protection for the deeper layers and the inner body, which is their purpose; they need all of the nutrients found in the foods used for healthy skin.

There are no blood vessels in the epidermis. So, it gets its nutrition through a process called diffusion. The nutrients are “passed up” from the deeper layers. As you might think, that process is somewhat inefficient and becomes even less efficient with age. So, the purpose of a nourishing skincare cream is to supplement what makes its way up from below.

Any nutritional deficit will lead to problems with the skin’s health or appearance. Essential fatty acid deficiency causes dryness and flakiness. Vitamin C deficiency causes weakened fibers, sagging, easy bruising and bleeding. But, if there is a protein deficiency in your diet, the normal replacement of the epidermis cannot be accomplished.

One food for healthy skin that is recommended by popular diet doctors is salmon. There is even one dermatologist that says eating it every day will reduce wrinkles. Who knows whether or not that’s true. But, there is one thing that we know for sure. Salmon is a good source of protein, essential fatty acids and several antioxidants.

When it comes to providing direct nourishment, antioxidants are a must. All skincare creams should contain them. Many of them do, but few contain a high enough quantity to be effective.

Some of the most potent antioxidants are not present in the basic foods for healthy skin. For example, coenzyme Q10 is a very important antioxidant that is quickly depleted by overexposure to sunlight, one of the causes of wrinkles, sagging and other signs of age. However, coenzyme Q10 is not present in things that most people eat. The highest concentrations are found in heart and other organ meats.

Luckily, we don’t have to eat those things. We can take a good supplement that contains COQ10 and there are excellent skincare creams that contain it. Studies have shown that use of COQ10 creams repairs sun damage, reverses wrinkles, reduces roughness and improves the skin’s moisture content.
