There are many things that can cause your breasts to be sore. Injury, sleeping awkwardly, being pregnant, PMS and fibrocystic breast disease are all things that can be to blame. The most common reason for breast soreness is nursing.
When your breasts swell up and become heavy with milk they are considered to be engorged. This normally happens a few days after having your baby and can be very uncomfortable. It usually goes away after you get on a regular nursing schedule.
Mastitis shows up with a number of symptoms including redness, hot and inflamed breasts. You can usually find a lump on the breast and symptoms that seem much like the flu. Mastitis can be caused by either an infection or inflammation in a nipple or blocked duct. This often occurs when you are failing to hold the baby in the right position or not feeding him/her regularly. Rushing to feed your baby too quickly can also cause mastitis.
If you are failing to hold the baby properly or he/she is not latching on to the nipple right then you can end up with cracked nipples. This often leads to thrush, a fungal infection that affects both the baby and you. Thrush shows up as white patches in the babys mouth and a pink rash on your nipples that is itchy.
If you notice that the baby is biting on your nipple after feeding then you should detach them right away. There are plenty of toys available that your baby can use to help with their teething and make their gums feel better. Not allowing your baby to teeth on your nipple can help to solve a lot of problems before they even start.
You will want to avoid prescription medications while breastfeeding because you will pass the side effects right along to your baby, through the breast milk. Herbal medicines are much better during this sensitive time. Marigold and Chamomile are great choices if you are looking to avoid fungal infections, inflammation and the spread of bacteria. They are also great at naturally helping to stop the pain you might be experiencing in your breasts. Vitamin E and Silica will help your skin to heal better and put a stop to the uncomfortable itching that often occurs with breastfeeding.
Make sure that you feed your baby anytime they need it and if your breasts feel too full then express the milk. When you are breastfeeding make sure that the baby is positioned right. Your entire nipple and most of the areola should be in his/her mouth.

Yeast is a microorganism that grows in warm, moist areas that have sugar as a food source. Everyone has yeast somewhere in their body—it’s a natural situation. It is present in the large intestine, and often as a thin white layer at the back of the tongue. A strong immune system and “friendly” bacteria inside our gut act to keep yeast levels in check. However, if a person’s immune system is not functioning correctly, or if they don’t have the right amount of friendly bacteria, yeast overgrowth (candidiasis) can occur. Candida albicans is a single-celled fungus, and it is this species which appears to cause the most yeast-related problems for people. It can penetrate the lining of the gut, which can worsen food allergies and food sensitivities. Candida overgrowth in the vagina can cause a painful infection.
In fact, yeast overgrowth is much more common in women than men (1). Candida overgrowth can spread to the ears, fingernails and/or toenails, ears, and nose. If candidiasis becomes severe and uncontrolled, the yeast can actually invade multiple organs and cause life-threatening health problems. Certain diseases can also contribute to Candida overgrowth, including: HIV infection, diabetes, and cancer. Causes of candidiasis can include: steroid medication, alcohol use, a high-sugar diet, chronic antibiotic use, oral contraceptive use, and parasites.
There are many different symptoms of candidiasis. Neurological symptoms can include: chronic fatigue, memory loss, alcohol intolerance, and depression. Gastrointestinal symptoms can include: food allergies and sensitivities, heartburn, cramps, gas and bloating, and diarrhea or constipation. Genitourinary symptoms can include: impotence and/or prostatitis for males, and vaginal and/or urinary tract infections for females. Other symptoms can include: jock itch, athlete’s foot, rectal itching, and severe premenstrual syndrome. There is often a craving for alcohol, sweets, or breads.
Like most fungus, Candida grows in moist, warm areas. This can include areas on and inside the body such as the mouth, throat, lower intestine (which is alkaline pH), and vagina. Alkaline pH can support infection, including yeast infection. This is why areas like the vagina are normally acidic, to help inhibit infections. Candida infection of the mouth is called thrush. The tongue and other areas inside the mouth end up covered with a fluffy white layer of fungus.
Many people mistakenly believe that organisms like fungi and yeast are harmless organisms. However, yeast toxin damage in the body is widespread and can include: hormonal problems to the thyroid, testes, adrenals, and/or ovaries, staph infections, impaired immune response, fatty acid imbalances, decreased absorption and/or metabolism of nutrients, impaired circulation, impaired neurotransmission, and decreased protein metabolism (2).
There are a variety of over-the-counter drugs to help fight Candida infection of the skin, and these are generally safe if used properly. There are also some anti-yeast prescription drugs to fight Candida internally. Miconazole (Monistat) is a popular antifungal cream for vaginal yeast infections. Nystatin is an older drug that is relatively safe, although as mentioned elsewhere in this article, some holistic practitioners believe that, even if it does kill Candida, in the long term it is ineffective at controlling general fungal infections. They speculate that the drug simply forces the yeast strain into a different form (3). It may be that Nystatin does in fact kill specific strains of yeast such as Candida albicans, but it may leave other species of fungus relatively unharmed, and these species then fill the void that albicans left. Fluconazole (Diflucan) is a newer antifungal drug that unfortunately can have liver toxicity and multiple drug interactions as side effects.
Holistic treatment of candidiasis can be complicated, since there are so many variables in the causes and symptoms for this illness. Below are a few helpful tips in combating yeast overgrowth. Citrus fruits such as lemons, limes, oranges, pineapple, and grapefruit may worsen Candida infection in some people. Try eliminating these fruits for a few weeks and then reintroduce them one at a time, to see if you are sensitive to their yeast-promoting character. People with significant intestinal candidiasis may have low levels of stomach acid (4); they should check this with a physician. Finally, when a person uses various therapies described below for controlling yeast infections, they may actually feel worse for a couple of weeks. This may often be due to the yeast being killed off, and their toxins being released into the bloodstream. People who feel worse while starting a yeast-controlling program should continue unless the dead yeast toxin symptoms are intolerable.
To help the immune system and friendly bacteria defeat Candida, sugar intake must be eliminated. This includes fructose (fruit sugar), which some people think is a healthy form of sugar, but it is not. Fructose goes into the same biochemical pathway as sucrose (table sugar). People with candidiasis should also avoid food molds: fermented foods, cheese, mushrooms, and grapes. Even sweetened yogurt should be avoided, since the added sugar in the yogurt outweighs the benefits of the friendly acidophilus bacteria in the yogurt. Unsweetened yogurt is the best form. Unsweetened yogurt may inhibit yeast infections (5). It’s not recommended to apply yogurt in the vagina or other areas where yeast infections are on the skin. A good anti-yeast diet can include: eggs, fish, nuts/seeds, poultry, vegetables, meat, and small amounts of whole grains (1).
There are several different supplements that can help the body keep yeast under control. Iron supplements may help oral candidiasis (mouth and throat infection) (6). Experiments on mice showed that zinc supplementation increased resistance to Candida infection (7). Supplemental digestive enzymes such as chymotrypsin, lactase, pancrelipase, papain, pepsin, and trypsin may be helpful for keeping intestinal Candida in check by the improved digestion of foods. There are also additional methods to help keep yeast in check. Women with vaginitis who ate eight ounces of yogurt containing the friendly probiotic Acidophilus significantly reduced Candida infection (8). Tea tree oil can be used to treat external Candida infections (8). Tea tree oil should never be used internally, either by ingestion or as a vaginal douche. Oregano oil has antifungal activity against Candida (9).

Endometriosis is where the tissue lining in your uterus (endometrium) starts to grow in areas outside your uterus which can cause symptoms such as pain and may even cause or lead to infertility problems.
The endometrium starts to thicken and prepares itself for an embryo and for a possibility of becoming pregnant. But, when fertilization does not take place or pregnancy does not occur, then the endometrium tissue shreds during menstruation.
What should normally happen is the endometrial tissue inside the uterus bleeds and is expelled through the vaginally, however with endometriosis, the endometrial tissue breaks down as usual but is not expelled and starts to build up inside your body. This is not good as it will create cysts, scar tissue, and adhesions.
In most cases this build up occurs in the women’s pelvic region around the ovaries, vagina, fallopian tubes just to name a few. In more rare cases the build up of endometrial tissue can occur in places such as your lungs, thighs, and arms.
About 30% to 50% of all women who have endometriosis also have fertility problems or experience infertility. The only way to find out if you have endometriosis is with diagnostic laparoscopic surgery, which is where the doctor will make 1-3 incisions in your abdomen and insert the laparoscope (a small fiber optic tube which has a camera on it), and will take a look around.
For most women with endometriosis, in addition to battling infertility they also may have periods that hurt and sexual intercourse may hurt. But all women are different, and some may only experience having fertility problems and no other symptoms at all.
The most common symptoms include:
Painful Menstrual Cramps
Pelvic Pain
Painful Sexual Intercourse
Heavy Menstrual Periods
Infertility
Bladder Problems
Constipation or Diarrhea
If you have any of these symptoms you may have endometriosis, and should get it checked out immediately by a doctor. This may be the reason why you are having trouble getting pregnant. In severe cases a hysterectomy may have to be performed.

Rather unknown to the general public (apart from those who have problems with it), the thyroid gland secretes hormones the role of which is vital for the body as a whole, including, as we will see here, for the hair.
As you know, thyroid is intimately involved with hair function, witness that early graying and loss of outer eyebrows, is a cardinal sign of low thyroid in oneself or in the family. It is important for hair loss sufferers to realize that there is a major connection between the thyroid and hair loss.
Factors That Prompt Thyroid and hair loss
Some of the most common factors that prompt Thyroid and hair loss are aging, heredity, poor blood circulation, weight loss, hormones, faulty immune system, stress, vitamin deficiency, under active thyroid glands, and diabetes. Now if what you have is an under active thyroid gland, the necessary hormones that will keep the hair healthy and strong will not be produced.
Remember that if it is found that you are dealing with a thyroid and hair loss problem, once you start on a treatment for a hyperthyroid or hypothyroid condition that it is likely you will experience almost complete recovery and regain at least most of your hair back.
It is widely believed that females who suffer thyroid disease lose hair due to decreased metabolism in their scalp follicles, resulting in early release of the shaft, root and all. But it is necessary to differentiate the thyroid hair loss due to nutritional deficiency.
Thyroid and hair loss is a common complaint of thyroid disease patients. A drop in thyroid hormone production means a reduction of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (SBHG) concentration in the blood. This may be another reason why some people have incomplete hair re-growth despite successful hair re-growth treatment with thyroid hormones.
Thyroid hair loss
Thyroid and hair loss can be caused by unbalanced activity of the thyroid gland. Both men and the women are subjected to hair loss especially if their thyroid glands fail to work double time. Thyroid troubles are five times more frequent in women than in men.
The types of situations that can cause thyroid and hair loss include hormonal changes, poor diet and nutritional deficiencies, a variety of medications, surgery, and many medical conditions, but noticeably, thyroid disease.
A faulty thyroid can force the hair follicles to remain in the latent or the dormant phase for unlimited periods of time. Some people actually say this is the worst symptom of their thyroid problem — this thinning hair, large amounts falling out in the shower or sink, often accompanied by changes in the hair’s texture, making it dry, coarse, or easily tangled.
The good news for most people is that this hair loss will slow down and probably even stop totally with the correct be it treatment for an overactive or an underactive thyroid. The female hair re-growth reversal through restoring thyroid function requires long years of treatments, sometimes with a fairly high dose of thyroid medicine. Treatment for thyroid disease involves carefully regulated doses of thyroid hormone.
As everybody knows, the thyroid gland is a major component of the endocrine system. Both men and women are subjected to hair loss especially if their thyroid gland fails to work double time. Therefore, if the cause of the hair loss is a , make sure that you undergo a series of therapy to correct whatever it is that needs to be straightened out. Having early graying and loss of outer eyebrows, is a cardinal sign of low thyroid activity.
Remember that if it is found that you are dealing with a thyroid and hair loss problem, once you start on a treatment, it is likely you will experience almost complete recovery and regain at least most of your hair back. Find out more about

When it comes to dieting, far too many people set themselves up for failure before they even begin the process. They literally dread going on their diets and before they start the process are planning their mishaps along the way. Sad to say but true, far too many would be dieters are planning their first Rocky Road mishap while eating their last bowl of Rocky Road before the big event.
I have no idea why we tend to do this to ourselves but it is something I see in dieters everywhere. The far too popular notion is that one must binge on the foods most loved and enjoyed before beginning the dieting process because these things must be completely eliminated in to shed those unwanted pounds. If you are honest with yourself, nothing could be further from the truth. Moderation is simply a concept that many of us are loathe to embrace.
You must change your way of thinking about food and your personal enjoyment of food in for any diet you embrace to be successful. Food isn’t the enemy. And that is something that not enough people really understand. Even the ‘tasty’ foods aren’t the enemy. The enemy is your personal inability to properly portion the foods you eat. The problem is that the vast majority of us eat the wrong foods far more often than we eat the right foods. This is where the problems lie.
Our bodies need the nutrients we are lacking by not eating the five servings of vegetables and three servings of fruit each day that we should consume. Our bodies know that something is missing and we feel hungry or deprived. If we were actually consuming the proper balance of fruits and veggies each day we would find that we were far less likely to feel hungry and desire those foods that aren’t as healthy. This means we would be much more likely to enjoy them in moderation as they should be enjoyed.
Portion control is another problem that we have. We live in a society of “up selling”. Super sized fries and empty calories by the gallon of your favorite cola are offered with almost every fast food meal that can be bought. You must learn to say no to these things and avoid situations in which you may feel tempted to partake in these up sized orders.
To be truly successful when dieting you need to embrace the process as building a healthier you rather than depriving yourself of something. Do not think of your weigh loss plan as something negative but rather a positive force in your life to make changes for the better. When you have negative thoughts do not direct them at your diet. When you feel deprived remind yourself that you are depriving your bones of carrying around that excess weight. Remind yourself that you are depriving your wardrobe of those bulky clothes that are designed to hide the bulges. Remind yourself that you are depriving your body of years of bulges and bringing back the body of your youth.
Do not get so caught up in the dieting process that you forget to enjoy some of the goodies that life has to offer. Watching your weight and counting your calories does not mean that you can never go over your allotment. The goal however is to find balance. If you learn to portion your food correctly, indulge in moderation, and incorporate enjoyable calorie burning activities into your daily routine you may be amazed at the results.
Dieting for weight loss and health is only depriving if you allow it to be. If you cannot control yourself when it comes to indulging then by all means avoid indulging. However, if you can learn to incorporate those small treats into your routine in moderation and burn those extra calories as well, then you should find yourself a much happier and more successful ‘dieter’ than you have ever managed to be in the past.

Eating food for healthy skin is a great choice. It’s good for the rest of your body, too. But, you should also be aware of the value of a good skincare cream. If it contains the right ingredients, it can provide “direct” nourishment.
The skin’s outer layers are composed completely of dead keratinized cells. They are produced by stem cells, located within the dermis layer, along with the melanocytes (produce the pigment melanin in response to sun exposure) and the elastic fibers.
When we are young, the stem cells are producing 24 hours a day. The entire outer layer (called the epidermis) is replaced in four weeks or less. Thousands of dead cells are sloughed off every day, as new ones make their way to the surface. As we get older, all of that slows down.
Since, the cells in the epidermis are dead; you might think that they don’t need nourishment. But, in to provide protection for the deeper layers and the inner body, which is their purpose; they need all of the nutrients found in the foods used for healthy skin.
There are no blood vessels in the epidermis. So, it gets its nutrition through a process called diffusion. The nutrients are “passed up” from the deeper layers. As you might think, that process is somewhat inefficient and becomes even less efficient with age. So, the purpose of a nourishing skincare cream is to supplement what makes its way up from below.
Any nutritional deficit will lead to problems with the skin’s health or appearance. Essential fatty acid deficiency causes dryness and flakiness. Vitamin C deficiency causes weakened fibers, sagging, easy bruising and bleeding. But, if there is a protein deficiency in your diet, the normal replacement of the epidermis cannot be accomplished.
One food for healthy skin that is recommended by popular diet doctors is salmon. There is even one dermatologist that says eating it every day will reduce wrinkles. Who knows whether or not that’s true. But, there is one thing that we know for sure. Salmon is a good source of protein, essential fatty acids and several antioxidants.
When it comes to providing direct nourishment, antioxidants are a must. All skincare creams should contain them. Many of them do, but few contain a high enough quantity to be effective.
Some of the most potent antioxidants are not present in the basic foods for healthy skin. For example, coenzyme Q10 is a very important antioxidant that is quickly depleted by overexposure to sunlight, one of the causes of wrinkles, sagging and other signs of age. However, coenzyme Q10 is not present in things that most people eat. The highest concentrations are found in heart and other organ meats.
Luckily, we don’t have to eat those things. We can take a good supplement that contains COQ10 and there are excellent skincare creams that contain it. Studies have shown that use of COQ10 creams repairs sun damage, reverses wrinkles, reduces roughness and improves the skin’s moisture content. Those are things that food for healthy skin might do, over time. But, a good cream will do it in no time.
